At Abington P.D., we seek to provide plenty of training opportunities for our officers.
This not only helps our officers stay safe and be more effective, it also increases their level of professionalism. The Township Commissioners support this effort by providing significant budgetary support for police training.
We are fortunate to have our own training facility, the Public Safety Training Center, which we share with Abington’s fire companies. The photo at left shows a training course taking place at the facility.
All personnel attend two in-service days per year at the Training Center, including hands-on exercises. In addition, officers receive a variety of on and offsite training throughout the year.
Abington P.D. officers qualify with their firearms four times per year, including a night-fire exercise.

A few years back APD and the Montgomery County Black Law Enforcement Officers Association cooperated on the making of a recruitment video.
It’s a bit dated now (you can tell from the old-style computer seen in one of the patrol cars), but the information - and the need for minority police applicants - is as valid as ever.
We’ve uploaded it to Google Video so you can check it out.
