Just trying to get some clarity on the date.. on this post it says the test will be March 15, but the site says April 14, are there multiple tests or is there a misprint? Thank you in advance.

Mike – just one test, the March 15th.

Where are you seeing April 14th?

  • Jon Oehrle // January 9, 2008 at 6:17 pm

I think he might be talking about the link that is provided because I had the same question. When you click on the link the page that comes up says April 14th for the test date, which was the last test that took place.

when you click the link to the website for application, the date seems to be misprinted. It says Saturday, April 14, 2007. thanks.

When you click onto the web site link it states that the test date is April 14th 2007. Please advise……..

Hello abingtonpd and Happy New Year,

Mike must have hit the link that you have for the application. Link is as follows: http://www.abingtonpd.org/Police%20Test%20Forms/2007%20Test/Exam_Announcement.htm

This is last year’s test application for 4/14/07.

    Thanks so much.

    Hello APD,

I am one of the candidates that passed the oral part of Abington’s test and was supposed to be notified for further instructions late December 2007 and never was. Can you help me with this or contact me with some information?

    Thank You,

    Brandan Saylor

It says April 15th on the link from above where it says “test announcement and application available on our web site”. When you click on “web site” and it takes you to the exam announcement it says April 15th. Is that correct?

I was just wondering if the civil service commission ever finalized a list from the last test. I never received notification and posted this question two weeks ago. When I logged back on, the responses from last test were removed.

  • abingtonpd // January 11, 2008 at 12:53 pm

Okay, those of you who are seeing that April 14th date must have bookmarked last year’s application.

Anyway, thanks for letting us know and we are fixing that now.

The test will be March 15th. Applications will be available at the end of January.

  • abingtonpd // January 11, 2008 at 12:56 pm

    @Brandon and Warren…

The Civil Service Commission certified that list on Dec. 18th, 2007 and it is the currently active list. You are both on it.

We will have a mailing going out in the next week or so to notify those on the list.

  • Warren Brady // January 11, 2008 at 6:28 pm

thanks for the update about the list. do you recommend that I should take the test again or should I not since I am already on the list?

  • abingtonpd // January 14, 2008 at 3:10 pm

my advice would be to take the test again…

  • Keith Samrco // January 15, 2008 at 11:18 am

I was just wondering if Abington PD has its own Police academy or if you need to have training before applying. Also if you do have an academy do you get paid while in it. Thanks.

  • abingtonpd // January 15, 2008 at 4:50 pm

Keith – we do not have our own academy. We send recruits to one of several nearby regional academies.

Unlike some other area PD’s you do not need an ACT 120 police officer certification in order to apply.

We send recruits to the academy if they haven’t already been. And, yes, you get paid while you are attending.

What type of test is the exam on 3/15/08? Is there any preperation that you recomend for it?

    Thank you.

  • RyanG // January 31, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Is the Philadelphia Police Academy an option?

  • abingtonpd // February 1, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Ryan – we normally use the Montgomery County Academy, located in Conshohocken.

    Dear Abington P. D.,
Once a candidate passes the written examination, how much time will pass before taking the physical agility test for your or other departments. Thankyou.

  • Pat // February 5, 2008 at 1:21 pm

i have been philadelphia police officer for 4 yrs. I was thinking about taken the test, would i have to re-enter the academy if excepted

  • Joleen // February 5, 2008 at 3:20 pm

I know there is no actual study booklet for the test but can you advise as to what the math portion of the test is like?

    Joleen

    Dear Abington P. D.
Please withdraw my previous question, I read the answer in another part of the blog ( 4 to 6 weeks). Next question, Should I take the exam knowing I will not be capable of passing the physical agility test due to injury. In other words , could one get a waiver on that portion of the process for say six months or should one wait untill the next test cycle. Thank you.
    Regards,
    A

  • abingtonpd // February 8, 2008 at 1:07 pm

Anon- about 3-4 weeks between written and agility…

  • abingtonpd // February 8, 2008 at 1:07 pm

@Pat – no, if your Act 120 is active, you will not need to go to the academy again.

  • abingtonpd // February 8, 2008 at 1:08 pm

@Joleen – I am unable to discuss the content of the test. Hope you understand…

  • abingtonpd // February 8, 2008 at 1:09 pm

@Anon – you would need to be able to pass on the scheduled day, if that helps you make your decision. We are unable to extend a waiver or a delay.

  • abingtonpd // February 8, 2008 at 1:11 pm

@Jeremy – yes, you will have a spot. You only get veteran’s preference points if you were active duty military with an honorable discharge.

Is there a certain dress code on the day we are taking the written exam? One of my friends in New Jersey said he had to wear business casual to the exam. Wondering if it is the same with this exam as well. Thanks.

  • ThomasC // February 24, 2008 at 10:42 pm

Should I expect an entry card prior to March 15 or just report to the community college on that day?
